According to the Spanish SPORT, talks between the German midfielder and Barça are heading in the right direction. Gündogan has been in top form in recent weeks and scored two fantastic goals against Everton FC on Sunday. The player also started in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday and played for 79 minutes.

City hopes to keep Gündogan for another year through an extension but would understand if the player chooses an adventure in Catalonia. Gündogan remains a key player for Pep Guardiola's team, but the midfielder's contract is set to expire this summer. In addition to Barcelona, Arsenal is also reportedly interested in acquiring the player.

Gündogan was acquired from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 for approximately 27 million euros. Prior to that, the midfielder played for clubs such as FC Nürnberg and went through the youth academies of VfL Bochum and Schalke 04.
