Fabio Cannavaro will not continue as the coach of Udinese. The former defender had hoped to stay longer as a reward for keeping the club in Serie A.

Cannavaro was appointed at Udinese in the second half of April. The fifty-year-old former world champion led the club, which was in crisis, through six matches.
In that series, they lost only once and secured nine points. A victory at Frosinone on the last matchday ensured Udinese finished above the relegation zone, thus avoiding relegation.
Despite these achievements, the Serie A's fifteenth-placed team will not continue with Cannavaro. The legendary former central defender had wanted to stay longer. "President Pozzo informed me that the club has decided to end our professional relationship. I want to thank him for the opportunity, and I am disappointed that I cannot continue this short, intense adventure. I have grown fond of the club and the people here," Cannavaro shared on Instagram.
Cannavaro's coaching career has been diverse and international. He has previously worked as a coach in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and China. From September 2022 to February 2023, he was in charge of Benevento in Italy's Serie B. Despite his extensive experience, the 2006 Ballon d'Or winner has never coached for at least one full season in one of the five major European leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France).
His tenure at Udinese, albeit brief, was marked by a significant turnaround in the club's performance, showcasing his potential as a manager in top European football. However, the decision by the club's management suggests they are looking for a different direction moving forward. Cannavaro's future in coaching remains uncertain, but his track record indicates he will likely find another opportunity soon.
