Lingard closed the door on Nottingham Forest last summer. The former international then trained with West Ham United, but The Hammers ultimately decided not to offer him a contract. Lingard's future may lie in Saudi Arabia. Al-Ettifaq, Gerrard's club, is allowing the forward to train with them for a month.

At the fourth position in the Saudi Pro League, Lingard will encounter some familiar faces, as the club hosts four former Premier League players. Besides Georginio Wijnaldum, there are Jordan Henderson, Demarai Gray, and Moussa Dembélé. If the trial period is successful for both parties, Lingard can sign a contract with Al-Ettifaq.

Depression and alcohol problem

Earlier this year, Lingard revealed that he had struggled with depression and an alcohol problem for a long time. The player shared this in The Diary of a CEO, a podcast hosted by British businessman Steven Bartlett. The former Manchester United player was candid about his difficult upbringing and the issues he faced later in life.
