Memphis Depay's recurring muscle injuries have posed significant challenges throughout the season.

Initially sidelined in September for two matches, his woes continued as he missed a further fourteen games during the first half of the season ten of those with Atlético Madrid and four with the Dutch national team. A subsequent injury in April further hindered his play, resulting in another six-game absence.

Despite these setbacks, Memphis has made strides towards recovery. He resumed individual training and has now rejoined group sessions, as reported by Diario AS and Cadena SER. However, his participation in Atlético's upcoming match against Celta de Vigo this Sunday remains uncertain. This season, despite his limited appearances, Memphis has managed to contribute significantly, netting five goals and providing one assist in La Liga.

The news of Memphis regaining fitness is particularly timely and beneficial for Ronald Koeman, the Dutch national team coach. With the European Championship approaching, having a key player like Memphis in form is crucial. Atlético still has four league matches remaining, offering Memphis potential opportunities to regain match fitness and rhythm ahead of the international tournament.

Looking ahead to June, the Dutch team has scheduled two friendly matches against Canada and Iceland as part of their preparations for the European Championship. The Netherlands is set to begin their campaign on June 16 against Poland, in a group that also includes formidable opponents like France and Austria. The return of a fit Memphis could be pivotal as the Dutch aim to make a strong showing in Group D of the tournament, leveraging his experience and goal-scoring ability to enhance their chances of success.
