Ronald Koeman announced the selection of the Dutch national team on Friday. It includes three debutants. Steven Berghuis also makes his return.
The new names in the selection are defenders Micky van de Ven (Tottenham Hotspur), Ian Maatsen (Chelsea), and Quilindschy Hartman (Feyenoord). Their debut in the squad cannot be separated from the injuries to Sven Botman (Newcastle United) and Tyrell Malacia (Manchester United).
In the pre-selection two weeks ago, there was also a spot for Justin Bijlow, but the Feyenoord goalkeeper suffered a wrist injury. Last Monday, Memphis Depay's hamstring injury was added to the list, which also means the Atlético Madrid forward is not on the final roster.
Compared to the Nations League finals, Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber and Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn are also absent due to injuries. While Georginio Wijnaldum was part of the squad back then, he has not been called up now due to lack of playing time at Paris Saint-Germain.
Bart Verbruggen was missing from the June selection due to his participation in the European Championship with Jong Oranje. Now, the 21-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper has been included. Berghuis is also making a return. The 31-year-old Ajax player was absent from the pre-selection. However, Brian Brobbey is not part of the team.
