There is a possibility that Everton may end up with a negative points total in the Premier League after the early stages of the season. The club from Liverpool faces a substantial points deduction, as reported by English media.
Like last season, Everton is struggling in England and has only managed to accumulate seven points in the first nine matches. Financially, the club is also facing difficulties, having incurred heavy losses. As a result, it was announced in March of this year that an investigation was launched into Everton for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
Between the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons, Everton is reported to have incurred a total loss of approximately 425 million euros, while Premier League rules stipulate that a maximum loss of roughly 120 million euros can be sustained over three financial years. Everton, which was investigated alongside Manchester City, denied the allegations and intended to defend its financial records.
However, it appears that this defense is as leaky as the first-team's defense, as according to English media, the Premier League has made a recommendation to impose a twelve-point deduction on Everton. This would result in the club from Liverpool having a negative points total and, of course, occupying the bottom position in the Premier League. Everton has not yet officially responded to the proposed penalty.
