Ange-Yoan Bonny’s arrival at Inter marks yet another strategic move in the club’s ongoing squad rebuild as they prepare for a highly competitive 2025/26 season, both domestically and in Europe.

The 21-year-old French striker joins from Parma for a reported fee of €25 million, including bonuses a significant investment by the Nerazzurri, who believe in his potential to become a key attacking option in the near future.

Bonny is coming off a strong campaign with Parma, where he scored six goals in Serie A. Despite Parma’s modest ambitions, Bonny’s physical presence, pace, and ability to hold up play made him one of the standout performers for the club. His journey in Italian football began in 2021 when he arrived from French side Châteauroux on a free transfer. Since then, he has developed into a reliable forward, particularly during Parma’s time in Serie B, where he netted five goals and made valuable contributions in the Coppa Italia, scoring three more. His performances earned him call-ups to various French youth national teams, adding international experience to his résumé.

At Inter, Bonny is expected to take on a supporting role behind established starters Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram. With Marko Arnautovic set to leave on a free transfer and strongly linked with a return to his homeland via Rapid Wien, and Joaquín Correa reportedly heading to Brazilian club Botafogo, Inter needed depth up front. Bonny offers exactly that a young, hungry forward who can learn under experienced leaders while gradually earning his place in Simone Inzaghi’s rotation.

Bonny becomes Inter’s third acquisition of the summer, following the arrivals of Brazilian winger Luis Henrique and Croatian midfielder Peter Sucic. These signings reflect a broader strategy at the club: to lower the average age of the squad while securing emerging talents who can either become first-team regulars or valuable assets in the transfer market.

However, Inter’s business this summer is far from done. Italian media report that the club is now shifting its focus to strengthening the midfield, with Atalanta’s Ederson high on their list. The 24-year-old Brazilian has been one of the standout performers in Serie A, known for his stamina, passing range, and tactical intelligence. But Atalanta are reportedly holding firm on a €60 million price tag, which would make Ederson one of the most expensive midfield signings in Inter’s history.

To make such a deal viable, Inter must offload players. Hakan Çalhanoglu, a central figure in Inter’s midfield and widely regarded as one of the best deep-lying playmakers in the league, has been linked with a move to Galatasaray. Tensions behind the scenes particularly a rumored fallout with club captain Lautaro Martínez have increased the likelihood of his departure. The Turkish international, now 31, could be sold for a substantial fee, which would help fund Ederson’s move.

In addition to Çalhanoglu, the club may also part ways with Davide Frattesi, who has caught the eye of Atlético Madrid. Frattesi, still just 25, has been a regular in Roberto Mancini’s plans for the Italian national team and would likely command a sizable fee. Yann-Aurel Bisseck, the 23-year-old German defender, is another player who could be sold. Although promising, Bisseck hasn’t cemented a starting role and may attract interest from Bundesliga sides looking for a physically imposing and technically sound centre-back.

Inter’s current transfer approach underlines their ambition not just to remain competitive in Italy but to build a squad capable of consistently reaching the latter stages of the Champions League. Having fallen just short in the 2023/24 final, the club is determined to retool with younger, more dynamic players, without compromising experience and leadership.

As the mercato unfolds, Bonny’s development will be closely monitored. While he is unlikely to be a regular starter in his first season, Inter’s coaching staff sees him as more than just a backup. With proper integration and mentorship, he could become the club’s next big forward project and potentially a star for both club and country in the years to come.
