During his debut, Messi delivered immediately. The Argentine scored a fabulous free-kick deep into injury time, leading Inter Miami to their first victory in two months. Messi made history, as he did for American television.

Messi's first match in American service has now been revealed to be the most-watched soccer game of all time in the United States. A staggering 12.5 million television viewers witnessed Messi's brilliance, as reported by TyC Sports. For comparison, the NBA Finals of 2022 were watched by 12.4 million people.

It is worth noting that, in Messi's case, only television viewers are included in the count. People who followed the match on their phones, tablets, or in any other way have not been added to the tally yet. Thus, MLS has confirmed that they have attracted a major audience draw in Messi.
