Mourinho disregards criticism: 'Always looking for an excuse'

José Mourinho did it again on Thursday. Just like last season, AS Roma finds themselves in a European final. After the Conference League, this time it's the Europa League. While Bayer Leverkusen, the opposing team, criticized the playing style of the Italians, Mourinho paid little attention to those words.

'It's always the same story: the team that loses looks for an excuse, while they would do the same if the situation were reversed,' said Mourinho during his press conference. The Portuguese continued in his interview with Sky Sports, saying, 'We gave everything. This is the result of hard work, experience, and tactical ingenuity. We know how to perform in these kinds of matches. This is an extraordinary team.'

Just like last year, Mourinho finds himself in a European final with Roma. Back then, his team defeated Feyenoord in the Conference League final. 'It's not about getting into the history books for me. I want to help these guys develop and achieve great things. I also want to give the fans beautiful moments because they have given me so much from day one. It feels good to be in a final again.'

After the match, Roma's coach calmly walked towards the away section but was momentarily emotional. 'No, I didn't run. My body can handle it, but I didn't want to celebrate right in front of Xabi Alonso. It was difficult for me to face him because he feels like one of mine. It's challenging to defeat him.'

Mourinho also expressed his support for Emilia-Romagna, the region in Northern Italy that has been hit hard by severe floods. 'We want to send a message to the people there. During difficult times, you bring out the best in yourself. In Rome, we are celebrating now, but let's not forget the sorrow and difficulties there.'

Pellegrini

Lorenzo Pellegrini dedicated the victory entirely to Mourinho after the match. 'He is different. He shows you how important this game is. We came here, and everyone knew what we had to do. We prepare, organize the team, watch footage. Especially in European matches, you can see what the coach adds. Mourinho is responsible for the personality of this group.'
