The performance of Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona in the match against FC Porto earned the midfielder from Arkel both very nice compliments and critical assessments. His teammate João Cancelo sang his praises, while the Spanish press was less enthusiastic.

In Mundo Deportivo, De Jong receives some critical remarks. 'After his return to the match at Rayo Vallecano, he still lacked match rhythm, especially in the first half and without the ball. He could have done more at Porto's goal. After the break, he realized he had to step up his involvement by two levels, in anticipation of regaining his game vision.'
Sport is also not overflowing with enthusiasm. 'The Dutchman wanted the ball and showed his ability to play through the lines. However, at the 0-1, he quickly lost connection with the game and did not follow goal scorer Pepê. After the break, he came onto the field enthusiastically and made up for his mistake by being precise with the ball and delivering a good cross to Cancelo.'
Cancelo himself was very positive about his teammate. 'All my teammates did well, but I want to talk about Frenkie de Jong. He is one of the best players I have ever seen in his position. When he plays, he makes a huge difference to the team, and we are very happy to have him back,' said the Portuguese after the match, in which the Blaugrana secured their ticket to the last sixteen of the Champions League.
