Lothar Matthaus believes that the Spanish coach will continue at Bayer Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso is a coach in the spotlight, due to the great work he has been doing at Bayer Leverkusen, the Bundesliga leader.
Lothar Matthaus, a former figure in German and world football, believes that he would be excellent for Bayern next season, but sees the Spaniard with a different focus.
"As for the search for Tuchel's successor, I would like to say one thing first: Xabi Alonso has to be at the top of Bayern's list because of his track record, his authority, and his successful work at Leverkusen. I don't see Mourinho or Low [as Tuchel's successors]. I can't think of any coach in Europe or the world who fits Bayern Munich better than Xabi Alonso," began the now Sky Germany commentator.
But Alonso is focused on Bayer Leverkusen, and I think that's good. Xabi Alonso is not interested in Bayern Munich, nor in Liverpool or Real Madrid. He is only interested in winning three titles with Leverkusen in the next two and a half months," he emphasized later.
"The same as he was as a player, now he is as a coach. He is true to his character. The stories unfolding now and in the coming weeks and months don't matter to him. He doesn't feel pressure and can take things calmly. His dream may be to one day coach Bayern, Liverpool, or Real Madrid. But, in my opinion, it's not over yet at Leverkusen.
Xabi is not someone who gets carried away by big names; he has celebrated many successes as a player for that. He also won't be guided by economic aspects. What matters to him is what he has built and with whom he has built it. He knows where he comes from and what he owes to others. That's why I don't think he'll sign with another club next season," he concluded.
