Liverpool has a very special farewell gift for departing Milner

What do you give James Milner as a farewell gift after eight years of loyal service at Liverpool? A beautiful watch? A photo of Milner with the Champions League trophy? No way, at Anfield they dismiss it with a piece of grass. Although, not just any piece.

One of the groundsmen of The Reds has cut out the penalty spot from the sacred turf of Anfield to present it to Milner. "For James. After eight years of destroying our penalty spots, it's now time for you to have your own to take care of. Best wishes for the future," they write on a note attached to a small stick inserted into the penalty spot.

Milner was indeed quite reliable during his years at Anfield. The Yorkshireman had the opportunity to take 21 penalties, of which he converted 19. In recent years, Milner saw less action on the pitch, with his last penalty dating back to December 2019.

Milner, known for his dry sense of humor, joined Liverpool on a free transfer in 2015. At Anfield, he literally won every trophy a footballer could win in the Premier League. The Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title a year later stand out among his accomplishments.
