Newcastle hoped to win the match and had plenty of opportunities to do so: the number of goal attempts was 23-1 in favor of the home team, who also had 77 percent possession. However, Leicester held their ground. Sven Botman played the full ninety minutes for Newcastle.

Newcastle has 70 points with one match remaining; Manchester United follows closely with 69 points and two matches left. Erik ten Hag's team can therefore claim the third spot, but both positions guarantee direct qualification to the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Leicester is on the verge of relegation. The 2016 league champions currently sit in the eighteenth position with 31 points. There is still one conceivable scenario to avoid relegation: the Foxes must win at home against West Ham United on the final day, while Everton must not win at home against Bournemouth. In that case, Leicester will secure their place while Everton gets relegated.
