Tom Lockyer of Luton Town has announced that everything is fine with him. The defender startled everyone in the football world earlier this month when he collapsed on the field due to what was later revealed to be a cardiac arrest.
Bournemouth and Luton faced each other on December 16th, and the match took a harrowing turn in the 59th minute. Out of nowhere, Lockyer collapsed to the ground without any apparent interaction with the ball or an opponent.
The players on the field quickly realized that something was seriously wrong and urgently called for medical assistance. Five days after the match, it became evident that Lockyer's condition had stabilized, leading to his discharge from the hospital.
Through Luton's communication channels, Lockyer broke his silence, expressing his gratitude and well-being following the cardiac arrest. 'I want to say that I am doing very well and feeling great after the heart attack. The reason I am doing so well is the heroic actions of the players, staff, doctors, and the medical team. I am grateful that this happened to me while surrounded by these heroes. They saved my life. I will never forget what you did for me.'
Despite his recovery, Lockyer remains uncertain about his future in football. 'I'm disappointed not to be involved, but I'm proud to see how the guys continue the fight without me. I will do what I can, in any way possible, to help the club. The form in which I will contribute has yet to be decided. In the new year, I will meet with various specialists.'
In addition to addressing his own situation, Lockyer took the opportunity to make a heartfelt appeal. 'I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for as many people as possible to have knowledge of CPR. It literally saves lives, like mine. You never know when you might need it.'
Regarding the Bournemouth - Luton match, which was halted at a 1-1 score, a decision has been made to replay the entire game. The sporting community continues to rally around Lockyer, celebrating his recovery and acknowledging the collective efforts that played a crucial role in saving his life.
